are there a lot of reefs in big lake that I need to watch out for? I've hit some oyster reefs that are co-mingled with oyster shells and mud but not any 'solid' oyster reefs. are there any in big lake that I need to watch out for?
thanks guys. |

Be careful at the North cut going into West Cove.

very shallow reef on north west point of turners bay. May be one of the shallowest reefs in big lake itself. West cove as mentioned also.

It's not a reed but there is a set of lake jetti's on the southeast end of the lake. If a high tide or storm surge they can be completely under waiter but usually are visible

Texaco cut and the north entrance of West Cove are probably the two toughest places to run on low tide for a Big Lake newbie. For both, have to make sure to stay right in the middle and keep that bearing as far out into the lake/WC as possible before going north or south. I usually completely avoid Texaco cut on a really low tide.

Does anyone have a map or chart of the location of the reefs? It sure would be helpful.

http://hooknline.net/products/f118-s...g-map-with-gps There's also another infamous map that has circulated on here a few times. If you dig deep enough, I'm sure you can find it. |

I spent the better half of an afternoon on the north side of the Texaco Cut waiting for the tide to come back in. To make things worse we ran out of beer about an hour and a half in.

I believe Texaco was dredged. 8-10 feet of water all the way thru on my depth finder.

I hear ya. Careful on the north side, of the lake side, of Texaco cut. Serious reef right there. Shallow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
