Default shimano vs. okuma

OK. Shimano tl20 vs. Okuma 30.........both same price, Okuma is mu h bigger, holds more line.......both are lever drag reels.......anyone use okuma blue water gear? I'm leaning towards it, but feels a little cheaper in your hand.........so, line capacity and bigger drag vs. Proven quality..........any thoughts?

I think you should buy at least 1 of each. You keep and fish with one and I'll fish with the other. Then I'll give you a report on how it did after a 5 year survey.

It may come down to that........have more rods than reels......they're at academy, I can always return one, or both?

Bob Gouges with Between the Banks fishing show uses Okuma. They give him the rod and reel combos each year and require him to talk about them on his show. He fishes almost every day and they hold up well. When we fished with him, we used the spinning reels, they casted pretty good and felt pretty good. They were used so much, the chrome plating was peeling off, but they still worked well.
It must be nice to be given a dozen or so new combo's every year.

Dink we are on the same page on trying to buy some gear.
I will only be using mine say six times a year, so a less expensive gear or used is the way to go for me.

I saw some deep sea rod and reels by Okuma for $96 at Sam's.
The same rig up was $76 at Academy today.

I have an Okuma Epixor 30 spinning reel and have used it for the last 3 years in strictly saltwater wading in the bays and surf. I know it has taken a few waves and has been totally submerged. I have only rinsed it and oiled it after use and it's holding up great. it's my "GO TO" spinning reel.

I also have a couple of older Shimano TX and FX 2000 and 4000 spinning reels that have also been mainly used in saltwater and they have done well also considering the pounding they've taken and they're the cheaper models. I rinse em right away and oil them also when they need it.

I think either will hold up if they are taken care of right away after use in the salt.

As far as casting reels, I think the Shimano is a better choice. I have an older Curado and Calcutta and they still work well.
