I work offshore and fish off of platforms as much as i can. anywhere from garden banks, vioska knoll, mississippi canyon, eugene island, green canyon. I just drop a line off the side and i usually have good luck with red snapper, trigger fish, amberjacks, tuna, and a very occaisional yellowfin dolphin.

I fish and dive offshore quite a bit, mostly outta Freeport. I wanna make some Sabine trips this year for Snapper.

i used to fish out of grand chenier and cameron, la a lot for snapper, ling, etc. a lot, gas prices and lower limits kinda ruined it for us.
just curious, why travel to sabine for snapper? |

LOTS of rigs, not a lot of people hitting them. Greater Houston area population mostly hits Galveston and Freeport. The water is dirtier, there are a lot more stingrays, but there are some big fish out there.

if you want some really untouched stuff try some of the rigs out of freshwater bayou/pecan island.....
we used to run southeast a lot out of grand chenier and at about 65 miles just about every platform held big schools of ling. |

I wouldn't call myself avid but, I started going offshore when I was 12 years old and have logged over 500 trips in the 29 years that I've been doing it. It's really my 1st passion........I bought this bay boat because I have too many friends that have offshore boats, so I got rid of mine to fish in skinny water when the weather doesn't permit going offshore.

I have always did the best with Red Snapper in Ship Shoal.. The trick was to get your bait to the bottom before the trigger fish and terd hustlers robbed you.. we had to use some 2 and 3 pound weights..
