Default boat motor fixed, fishin this weekend

took my boat home over the summer break, father and I rebuilt the carb on my 40 johnson, new points, new hoses, new fuel filter and pump. Dad's bringing the boat down this weekend, looking to get some good fishing in. I'm planning on fishing from Cal point north to lake charles. Father's never caught a redfish, speck or flounder. He's big into bass fishing and wants to catch some on top water. I have a few spots where I can catch a few everytime I go, but I want to put him on some fish. artificial or live bait won't be a problem, he just wants to hang into a good red. Not trying to potlick or anything, but does anyone have some suggestions on where to fish? I figure we'll hit lake charles a couple times and look for the birds cause I've seen them the last few times I've passed by that area.
