Default Make my rod/reel float?
I lost my "nice" rig in a Lafayette Kayak Fishing Tournament this weekend. Caught a nice good spec and, as it flopped around in my kayak, my rod and reel went overboard. Besides a lanyard solution, anyone hear of any other ways to help you keep your rig afloat? Something you can wrap around the rod? Any ideas?

I bought some foam floaties at BPS for my rods. They come in a pack of three. Before I could put them my rods my dog decided she wanted revenge for being left home on our vacation and tore them up.

pipe insulation and tie wrap to and bottom did it on my daughters rods and has saved me many times.

I see these used alot. Bass Pro or Cabelas

Can't remember 'w'ho posted that, but there was a good discussion on it. Seems like you have to watch how much helium you put in the rod or else it will fly off

Think those will go well with my baitcast reel? Seems like it would rub against the line. Could be completely wrong but I'm just picturing it in my head.

That was my problem with them so I took them off and just try to be extra careful. My buddy uses the rod floaties and he likes them. Helium in the rod, sounds interesting.

use a rod leash. adding floats only makes it bulky. casting all day with a piece of pipe insulation gets old quick.
