We decided to run up to Toledo Bend for a club tourney this weekend. I hadn't been up there in a month and I'd heard it was low, but WOW!
If you haven't been to Toledo Bend in awhile, now is a good time to go up and explore your favorite spawing flat. Just be careful running! We GPS'd a ton of spots that I KNOW will pay off later!
As for the conditions and the fishing, both were great! We launched at daylight with an air temp of 48* and took a water temp reading of 71*. Winds were light and variable. Made for a cool, but not uncomfortable run to our spot just above San Miguel. When we arrived, I was suprised to have literally 4 feet of visibility. That's virtually unheard of in that area of the lake. We started off with topwaters and spinnerbaits and caught a quick limit of good keeper bass. They really didn't want the topwater as much as the blade, so we slowed down and started throwing senkos. We ended up catching about 40 bass from 7am to 1pm. Lots of 'clone bass' (13-15" fish). Our best 5 were only about 10lbs. Good enough for 3rd in the tourney.
Here's a mess of the delicious bass I kept for the freezer! Fryin' some up today!
