Default IFA Kayak Championship

Had a BLAST last weekend at the IFA Kayak Championship. Didn’t get the big bite I was hoping for but thats fishing! There are some beautiful trout out at Alabama and the big reds were teetering off from the big cold front the weekend before. The Bulls had been stacked the 2 weeks prior but mostly had moved offshore by the time we were set to compete. Never the less I caught trout and red aggregates both days and ended up with 7th at the championship giving me a runner-up to overall AOY. But there were some HUGE fish brought in.. Namely a 43" red and a 29" trout. The grass flats around the Pensacola are beautiful and you can see every trout come out and bust your lure! Redfishing is very different there than in SE LA. Here you can pick any duck pond cruise in beat the banks and catch at least a few. There you have to stand up still as a statue on your kayak in a creek and wait to spot one and twich your wrist ever so slightly and pray you make an accurate cast! But they did like Killer Flats Minnow in Backyard Surprise and MirrOdines in Natural. The trout bite over there was crazy good most days but with the clear water the bite is over shortly after sun-up. I lost a big one that gave me the shakes, but still managed a few decent fish up to 23".
