Default Best Rod/Reel Combo for $100?

For what it's worth - Went to Bass Pro last night and Shimano's running a special.

Buy a Voltaeus Rod and any Shimano reel and get $20 back.

I have a couple of these rigs and I like 'em. They seem to hold up.

I got the Sedona 2500FD ($59.99) and the Voltaeus VTC66M 6'-6" Medium rod, 12# mono for trout and the 4000FD, VTC66MH 6'-6" Medium Heavy, 30# Suffix Braid for reds. The reels are $59.99 and the rods are $39.99 either way, take your pick. I looked at the Symetre reel for $40 more and the salesman agreed - it wasn't worth the extra cost.

The rod's listed as a freshwater rod but all hardware is stainless. I've had a couple of these for about 6 months and with hosing down, wiping off, and a lil Real Magic, they're holding up great.

Went yesterday, got another red rig, with Suffix rigged up and with the rebate the whole combo with the Suffix will be right at $100.

If you want the rod, be careful and not grab the 2 piece model.

At this price, you ain't gotta worry about ebay, cereal numbers or warranty. $100 every couple of years ain't too shabby.

(I don't work for Bass Pro, Shimano, or have a connection - just my opinion)
