Elmer's Island to Reopen May 27th

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Just in time for Memorial Day...Today, we announced the reopening of the six-mile long section of beach known as Elmer’s Island located near Grand Isle in Jefferson Parish effective at noon on Friday, May 27, 2011. Elmer’s Island, a popular local and tourist destination known as a surf fishing and birding haven, was closed in May 2010 as a result of the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.
