Decided to brave the cold and wind Saturday morning. I invited Longcast along and we had planned on fishing out of the aluminum rig but just before leaving, I got a call from Chris Bruno, who guides for Yellow Mouth Charters. He said the sports he had booked called and canceled and he asked me if we wanted to hop in with him. Well, I had seen the forecast for high winds, so it was a no-brainer!
With temps in the high 30's, we launched at Ellender's. We made a very cold and thankfully quick, run to Turner's to see 20 or so boats working a bunch of birds. However, we decided to stay out of the fray and just make some drifts... right decision. On the first drift we hung several nice trout and a couple reds while working glow/chart Reaction Jerk Jr's. We decided to go with it and caught several more chunky trout on the following drifts. The winds picked up, so we figured we'd had enough fun and headed in around 10ish. The final count was 23 trout 2 reds and 1 flounder. The best four trout went around 18lbs. Almost all fish were caught on glow/chart jerk jr's rigged on 1/8oz. Yellowmouth jigheads.
A big thanks to Bruno for putting us on some solid fish and saving us from getting beaten to death in the aluminum rig!!
