The FBI is investigating an apparent shooting in the waterways of Plaquemines Parish, but details about what occurred are scarce.
Initial reports indicated that one unidentified man was found dead on a pleasure boat near the West Main Pass area of the parish.
Maj. John Marie, a spokesman for the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office, said federal officials notified the Sheriff's Office that one man was found dead and two other individuals were found with gunshot wounds. He said the wounded invidividuals were taken to a local hospital for treatment. However, Marie didn't have any more details because the FBI is handling the investigation.
A Coast Guard official said that since the FBI is conducting the investigation his office could only discuss the evacuation portion of the event. Petty Officer Tom Atkeson said that the Coast Guard evacuated one man from an oil platform near West Main Pass by helicopter at about 6:45 a.m.. Another Coast Guard official said that no one was actually shot.
