Default Pecan Island Beast

Three of us headed down to Pecan Island to check out the marsh for some reds this past weekend.
Got to where we were launchin, went to unload the boats when one of us realized he forgot his paddle back home.
This happened not long after his phone flopped out his lap and onto the street for a nice spiderscreen...

Bad Start

Once we got out and started fishing, the water was super super clear but there was no tide or current at all. Further we got into the marsh, the more grassy and algae infested the waters became.

Overall very slow day, buddy had a few hits on his topwater but no hookups.
I did a little sight fishing along the shallow banks (could see the bottom for about 8 yards all around) and saw/spooked a few reds and PLENTY of garfish... they didnt seem to care at all, some dumb fish i tell ya

Finally, saw an enormous tail pop up and saw that black spot on it with the blue tip.

Picked up the pole, threw it in his direction, gave it one pop and saw the line start moving to the side. Waited a few seconds to set the hook, and WHAM, 35 minutes later this fella graced the top of my kayak with his presence!

Not much else happened afterwards so we called it a day and headed on in.

Personal best for me, kayak or boat.

33" 14.12lbs.
