Afternoon delight yesterday on the DU! After talking with my Texas based customers yesterday we decided to rescheldule Friday & Saturdays trips due to the uncertain weather. However, yesterday afternoon the winds took a break and laid down to 5 mph. Capt Brady Giroir and I decided to take advantage of the window and it would be a great time to explore some open water reefs we have not been able to fish lately due to high winds. I called my good friend and customer Clayton "Big C" Breaux to see if he would like to join us. Needless to say the 3 of us drove down to the DU and were in the water by 2:30. The lake was calm and the water nice and clean at most locations. We only targeted trout on the reefs as we need to find which ones are producing fish as we have a couple of fishing shows to film within the next few weeks. The intent is to target trout on shallow water reefs with top water lures and swim baits around the perimeters. This time of year the fish are constantly on the move in their quest for food while migrating south to the gulf to spawn. The old saying applies as its here today, gone tomorrow. We just want to make sure we're on top our game as it would be embarrassing to take out a film crew and only catch 6 or 7 fish! Yesterday we fished 4 reefs that normally hold fish this time of the year picking up very few fish as no baitfish were present anywhere. We only had a handful of fish in the box and we decided to check another location further south. Bingo as it was on with a fish on every cast!! We had the trout coming in 3 at a time on our bunker swim baits as the action was fast & furious! We had storms moving in and losing daylight fast but the bite was too great to abandon! We stayed as late as we could picking up 58 nice trout arriving back at the dock at dark thirty. Always a pleasure fishing with Big C and Capt B as we had a great time on the DU!. Good luck fishing.
