Holly Beach Seaweed Battle
You really couldn't fish Holly Beach for the latest 48 hours. It turned into drinking a few cold ones, and enjoying the sound of the waves. So Monday evening, a little outflow boundary pushed through late in the afternoon and briefly swung the wind to the north. That, and the fast falling tide provided me with a couple of hours where it looked worth it to throw a line in. I tossed a couple chunks of mullet out, popped the rod in a holder, and took a walk with my wife, "knowing", I wasn't catching anything. I showed back up 30 minutes later to a wildly bending rod. Game on. After a fairly short fight, I had a nice 18 pound red on the bank. I played around a bit more with no luck. Oh well, it was a fun ride!
It's tough out there right now. The seaweed is thick as of today. I learned another valuable lesson today. Don't park your campervan on Holly Beach if a giant thunderstorm is on the way. I was under the impression that the water would run off quickly. I was wrong. Thankfully one of the guys cleaning the seaweed dug a trench, and the water dropped to where we could get out. Saved my stupid butt! Such a stupid mistake, but it surely won't happen again.
