Yesterday morning we woke up to find squalls dotting the shoreline and they were just sitting there. I had a new crew in from Texas. Allen Filla and friends Robert and Steve wanted to bust the trout but we knew that would have to wait when we saw how bad the forecasters had missed it again. So we slept in and waited and waited and waited and those storms just wouldn't move. Finally at 10:30 we couldn't take it anymore and headed south. Stopped at Jugs to get crabs and set out on a bull red mission. The bulls weren't biting but we caught a few black drum. I noticed around 1:00 it had started to calm down. So we went to the coast and peeked out into the bay. It wasn't bad so we kept going. After a few stops we hit the trout jackpot and had some thick 16-20" fish coming in two at a time. This was at the beginning of the falling tide and we smashed 50 good fish real quick. Today the forecast said it would be calm offshore on the trout grounds. Again, we crossed Caillou Bay in 2-3 footers. Again, the forecasters blew it. At daylight however, some birds and shrimp made an appearance and we smoked 25 trout before heading north to relieve our backs. We hit the redfish hole with shrimp under a cork and in a few hours we had 14 slot reds.
