Is there's preferred method to get realtime weather and tide info for big lake?

How can you tell what the waves will be like in Big Lake itself ?

I made a trip to Big Lake about 2 months ago. I had looked at the weather forecast on several sites. It showed almost no wind 2-4 mph. BUT, when I got to Hebert's, the waves were white capping. Very very rough.
