Default Burns afternoon trip 7/27/16

Went out with my brother in law to the marsh in the afternoon. The rain was just a slow drizzle and stopped soon after we got out. We started out catching a number of bass on paddletails and other baits in our normal patterns (trails and cuts with water movement). Then in one trail we both caught the same fish. It grabbed my bait and his and so the debate was on on who gets to claim that one.

Then after a move I hooked into a big choupique (about 2 1/2') which fortunately shook off at the boat. After a few more bass, I noticed a large group of something just out of casting range. As we eased up, we realized it was a large group of redfish. After a good hookup and subsequent fight on light tackle, my brother in law landed a nice redfish.
We didn't keep it since I still have a few in the freezer, but we did shift our focus to chasing the school around for a while. At one point, they swam by the boat and there had to be 30-40 of them. I have seen them school before in deeper areas around big lake, but in about 3' of crystal clear water, it was a pretty cool site. They finally moved off and we went back to catching some bass. We released one that weighed right at 5 pounds on the scale which may not be big to most, but is pretty big for the burns (in my experience).
All in all, we ended with 15 bass, a pretty sunset, and some good times. Can't wait to get after them again soon.
