Nice time in the woods
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the woods a while back one Saturday afternoon, even though I didn't kill or even see any deer. I did see some HUGE fresh tracks right in front of my stand. I could see them clearly from up in the stand, making a trail right behind my trail cam, so I turned it around. Hopefully I'll get him on camera. May be the same one I got on November 1st. Not much of a rack, but I really don't care about that. I was pleased anyway. I'm just anxious to get my first bow kill. So far they've all been with my old 30-30, but I'm determined to put a Carbon Express arrow through some heart and lungs. I posted his pic on this site (Finally some encouragement) if you want to check it out. At least I know he's out there. Anyway, Saturday evening out there was just really nice. Squirrels were moving, the skeeters weren't bad, there was a hoot owl hooting away off somewhere deep in the swamp, (I love the sound of barred owls. There's just something really cool about 'em!) the little night critters were waking up. I enjoy mornings on stand, but evening hunts are my favorite time to be out there. I really like it when the last of the sunlight leaves the tops of the trees at sunset, the shadows deepen and that cool air just starts to settle down into the woods for the night. Even though you know you only have a few minutes of light left, you're truly alert, because the deer could just appear at any second. Sometimes you hear a twig snap, sometimes you don't and he's just THERE! What a nice time to be in the woods. Didn't get one this time, but still enjoyed it. That's true HUNTING. Don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled as can be to get a kill, but just being out there taking it all in is very enjoyable too. Just thought I'd share that with y'all. Next time you're in the woods and not seeing deer, just enjoy it anyway. Lots of people don't appreciate how relaxing it is. Later brothers!
