It has been pretty dry. That is part of it, but that area is 3-4 miles wide also. Thats alot of room for the water to spread out.

You can get flood insurance in a flood zone, if you are above flood elevation.
My sisters house got flooded for Rita, no flood insurance. She bought flood insurance and flooded for Ike. She got paid, no issues. It was the first time she flooded since the house was built in 1962. If you are under elevation, you pay a lot more. If you are above flood elevation, you pay the same as everyone else above flood elevation. |

Only time will tell. I think it depends on the rate at which the water is flowing though. If its a gradual rise I think it will help big Alabama but if it is sweeping through, it could probably really hurt it. Depends how fast it goes down too, slower the slower the better I would think

As far as henderson is concerned, I heard that the flood should help by restocking with fish from the atchaf. but I would think that there is mainly trash fish that would come in.. Hard to imagine bass and crappie thriving in the atcha.

The achafalaya definatly hold some fish ive seen old me who would stop on the bank of the crook shane (a bayou off the achafalya)and cut down a willow tree on the way to the camp next morning we killed the sacalait over that tree in the brown of the achafalya.

i believe it man. Hopefully all of the basin will benefit from this high water. It would be pretty awesome to see the bass and sacalait populations back to where they were 10 years ago. |
