i'm pretty sure this is a different kind of black water we are talking about here fool. The reason this water has turned black because of its low levels of oxygen and you can actually smell it. Its become close to stagnant in a sense. One way to tell is to look to see if the bubbles from passing boats are staying on top of the water for long periods of time.

I fish black water all the time, but different sort of black and we catch fine.

I know now what your referring to. My canal leading to our marsh is like that kinda. Just stagnant nasty water.
