Tim ,Go buy you a plug in circut tester for gfci and one for regular recepticals.
Less than $15 for both. you plug it in and it has lights that tell you if you have good ground , neutral and hot. also checks your GFCI ti make sure it's working properly.
If you don't fint a problem their then start pulling apart switch.
