Question Deer/Duck-St. Landry Parish

I have an opportunity to get into a lease for both deer and duck in St. Landry Parish, between the cities of Port Barre and Krotz Springs. I have never hunted in that area and was hoping I could get some feedback about the quality of duck and deer hunting in that area. The leasor/owner swears that the ducks are as good as Arkansas and deer are as good as Texas. Could I might get some unbiase opinions about this region that I know nothing about. Thanks to everyone.

No, it did not flood when locks were open. I actually should have put that in my initial questions.

A guy I know that duck hunted by me in the Kaplan area lost his lease this year and picked up a new duck lease lease in krotz Springs. He said the land he will be hunting on is WRP land.......Like any place you hunt, some areas are good and some are not as good within a given lease....

Whew! Thanks for clarifying! I don't knock anyone but, 7 ain't that great. 17, on the other hand, is wall worthy!

I have some old co-workers/friends that live in the area and seem to be quite pleased.

What is the name of this club as I am from Opelousas and have hunted on a few in that area. Some were good clubs some were not. Stay away from old two o clock hunting club. Also I wouldn't advise joining Lucky 12 hunting club either.

There is actually no club as of yet. The land was formerly owned by the LJG Land Company. I do not know when the present owner purchased the property from this Company.

I used to hunt off HWY 71. Sounds like same area. Guy owed my dad a bunch of money and had a huge rice farm so he let me hunt it for free. We did very well some years, and average others.

I got a buddy been hunting Lucky 12 since he was a kid. They do very well on mallards in the second split. And I wanna say it is less than $300/year to join Lucky 12. I have done very well in Lucky 12 before when I was in high school. Not as bad as u think.
