Default Grand isle borrow pits

My dad and I went to grand isle Friday morning. Stopped along la 1 and fished at the borrow pits on a rising tide. Gar were rolling in the water big time. We caught two small whites and had a few hits but nothing great. Eman on here was a huge help and his advice was extremely helpful. This morning before daylight we went to Elmer's island bridge and first cast we caught an 11" speck and nothing else there at the bridge. Went back to the borrow pits and caught another two whites and a ribbon fish. Our fishing involved all artificial some on the bottom and some under cork. My dad and I determined that after this week after 30 degree lows for 5 days the fish will be moving in. Because they definitely aren't all the way in.
Hope this helps!

Thanks again eman!!

Talked to 3 folks that fished down there this week .Since thur the fish have been off a whole bunch. 2 of them were guides. Said monday was good and it fell off all week.
Two of them were fishing live bait and had nowhere close to limits.

We will definitely be going back again in the next couple weeks especially if this cold that's coming really gets cold. Hopefully the fish will move in with a quickness.

Gotta "match the hatch" as they say. Those fish are feeding on Cocahoes in the marsh during fall and winter. You could also bring a minnow trap &/0r castnet to catch your own minnows and shrimp. If you catch a crab, crack it and put it on a hook on the bottom. Reds and drum will inhale it. Dead bait shrimp works in a pinch too.

As for arties, use any dark plastics w/ a chartreuse or fire tail fished real slow bumping the bottom. Gulp works good during this time also. Spoons like Mr. Champs and Wobble Rites can be deadly as anything you may throw in this area.

Old Skool!!! Tried and True.
You gotta fish using any option IMO.

Unfortunately I can't get that way like I used to. (It's that Geography thing). I know of some that have been doing ok down there this Fall since the surf turned off. It's hit or miss depending on the timing of fronts and tides.

And he still hasn't mentioned the cold water / cold days, go to colors
smoke w/ silver flake and avacado w/ chartruse tail .
h & h salty grub on 1/8 oz jig head.
when you think your fishing slow and on the bottom ,slow down some more.

For the next couple of months..... this is true everywhere.

And as for feeling the tap.... it will be very soft. The bite will be more like your line just "got a little heavier". Don't pull back and "set the hook".....just start reeling fast and then lift the rod tip up.

This is the time of year where a good sensitive rod and good braid give you the advantage.
We were fishing out of garfish camp in G.I. and it was one of those weeks that had low 30s at night and sunny days mid 50s low 60s and you felt like the bait was dragging over
something soft on the bottom. that's how light the bite was. 4 of us limited out or close to limited that trip.

Default All good info....

Appreciate the info..just found this website...have been looking for one to help learn the fishing in Grand Isle. We just purchased a camp down there this past April. Was down there Thanksgiving weekend and did pretty well with the Reds on dead shrimp and Gulp on the bottom. Any and all info is appreciated!

The colder it gets, the better it'll be. Wait for this next front to blow thru & it should be on!
