![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hunters Beware!!!!! I saw an ad by someone with the alias of Iota Mudslinger 65 booking guided duck and goose hunts on LA Sportsman AMgazine classifieds. They have a picture of 2 young boys with some ducks. The ad states they have killed over 300 birds in the first split. His GUIDE SERVICE IS: 'IF IT FLYS? IT DIES GUIDE SERVICE'. Well I called Brett Chapman. We spoke and he indicated that 'THEY' had killed 19 out there blind YESTERDAY. Teal, Grays, and Pintail as well as a few geese. I tell him I want to bring my firnds this weekend and want to check is operation out. I booked a hunt for this morning and we were to meet at the Roankoe truck stop @ 5:30 AM. 5:30 came and went. 5;45 Came and went. I called him. No answer, went to voicemail. Left message. 6 AM I'm leaving to go back home. I get a call from him, that he had a blow out. He was 25 minutes away. He get there and we drive another 20 minutes. Pull up to a field at 6:45 AM after shooting hours starts. He 's in under amour SHORTS. He puts on his hip boots and jacket and off we go. I ask WERE is HIS Gun. He says he didn't bring it. We walk about 1/2 mile to the blind NO Problem. Get to the blind, the fast grass is rotten and CLEARLY WASN'T this years grass. OLD, OLD shells all over. Some of the decoys were sunk and the water with trash in the blind was UP TO THE SEAT. Now mind you, I've been hunting for over 48 yrs. Brett who is probably 23-25 yrs old tells me NO PROBLEM, We'll just stand on the seat. Did I mention there 's not cover around the blind , just some rotten fast grass laying on top of the blind. Now I indicated to him that I've hunted alot longer than him, and It's obivous this blind didn't kill yesterday. HINT??? NO newly shot Empty shells among the other old shells. ROTTEN WATER UP TO WOODEN SEAT. TRASH. He then said they he has 'GUIDES' working for him and they hunted it ! NOT HIM!!! 'THE AREN'T KEPPING THE BLINDS UP'...... Anywho 8 AM comes and WE HAVEN'T SEEN A DUCK. Saw some snows and a few specks. I called the 'HUNT' over @ 8 am. NOW mind you we haven't hunted 1 hour, and 10 minutes. We get back to the truck he indicated that I OWE HIM THE FULL PRICE OF $150 Dollars. I pay the young man and leave. He did tell me he was sorry there was NO BIRDS. I KNOW.......I should have turned around and left when I saw the condition of his BLIND. But I wanted to give him a CHANCE!!! SO I'd appreicate it, if Idon't get any GRIEF FROM MY FELLOW SC "FRIENDS" ??? PLEASE JUST SNICKER UNDER YOUR BREATH??? LMAO. PLEASE DON'T BOOK A HUNT WITH THIS YOUNG MAN. I really don't know if this blind was his or NOT...... He's a FRAUD!! DEFINITELY YOU WANT TO STAY AWAY FROM HIM. JUST WANT TO SAVE YOU 'LL THE HEART ACHE. Just another lesson learned. Thanks BIGGUN ![]() |

I hate that it happened that way, but why in the world did you leave at 8:00? I would have stayed at least til noon (crappy spot or not)if you were paying that money, birds may have come in later, it was not a very 'ducky' day either yesterday. I have seen pretty ugly setups with hulls all over and look like a landfill but they consistently kill ducks. You can never predict live animals. We all live and learn though.
For the record, if I was to look for a guide and come across a guide service called 'if it flies it dies'! no sirree Last edited by Duck Butter; 01-18-2012 at 12:52 PM. |

yup.. the kid would have learned a lesson-to collect up front.. I always though that if you scratched on a guided hunting or fishing trip, a partial refund shoul be given |

I don't agree with that, you can not predict the weather or animals behavior. It was 80 degrees yesterday, not what I consider prime January duck hunting weather. I have used fishing guides in the past and IF you throw a bait in the water, then you pay, and I have no problem with that, never been an issue, its just business. The price is the price, whether or not he gets a tip is another issue. He provided a service and kept up on his end, minus being a little late. He had the choice right then to go or not, and decided to go, so he has to pay him

Negative
![]() You do have to admit that 'if it flies it dies guide service' should have been the first red flag. It automatically makes me think of a youngster that thinks he is some hardcore killer. But we haven't heard the whole story, maybe the 'sport' will get on here and set us straight ![]() |

its sad that someone would act like they are a guide and bring someone on a Huntin, fishin or any other trip and not take time to manage their business better then this, how can you expected to make a living in the outdoors and treat them like that muchless bring a customer to a trash hole.

jmo...a guide is doing a job he knows regardlesss if its fishing, hunting, etc..to me the guy should have called the hunter an said conditions arent right and lets reschedule...to me credibility is worth more than a few birds or fish....my .02.

There are THREE sides to ever story - the 2 opposing side, and then there is the truth. Y'all do remember a few weeks ago when one side of a story was that 'sport' came in and was shooting towards another blind and skybusting everything etc, etc. and everyone crucified him even wanted to throw ants in his blind! When he told his side of the story, it all changed, so... |

No he just know a guided trip works. You don't pay for a limit. You pay for being able to show up and shoot. You should, however, show up to a clean, dry, and well concealed blind. There should not be any hulls on the ground. The decoys should be freshly placed. And the guide should do what he can to get the birds in.
There is no garuntee you will even shoot anytime you go hunting. Guided trip or not |

What service did he provide? An unbrushed flooded blind that prob hasn't been hunted all year. His service was to provide ducks which he didn't. Not to mention he was late. Its like going eat at a restaurant and not getting any food but still pay... you got a table, so you owe em still, right? If the weather wasnt right, the guide should have cancelled. Fishing guides do it all the time. Do guides even scout anymore? I think a PARTIAL refund if they dont shoot one shot is fair. just my .02 Last edited by Armand16; 01-18-2012 at 01:32 PM. |

Here is one of the biggest guides in Morehouse Parish, check out this setup (hulls, blind, etc). Looks like a craphole, but he kills em. I agree that the water should have been pumped out beforehand though. If it was my operation, it would be a LOT more classier than this, but its not |
