The only downside to Hustler that I can find is that their decks don't seem to clean out as well as some other mowers. I would steer clear of Husqvarna and Toro as their decks are stamped and will eventually crack. Most of your popular brands are welded decks.
That being said, I bought a 48" Scag 2 years ago and have had no problems with it. It has a 26 hp Briggs on it and I paid right at $5k for it. Really, all of your upper end manufactures run neck and neck on quality and durability, IMO.
