Gamakatsu are the sharpest , Owner hooks are good but none of them hold up to saltwater like the VMC hooks ..

All I ever used on Bombers were Gamakatsu EWG #4. Never had a problem with corrosion or breaking. If a trout touched it...that's his azz. To each his own, tho.

Jeremy, are these Zara Spooks? If they are, you definitely wanna change the hooks whether they need changin' or not. A Zara is a freshwater bait and doesn't have saltwater hardware.

Too, if you must use nose rings on the line tie, get the oval ones. They will allow for more freedom of movement.....not as much as a loop knot, tho.

they are a mixture of spooks and something else, some are heddon some are excalibur, some others aren't tagged, most of them do have freshwater hooks but a few of them the excaliburs are labeled saltwater

i messed with them a little last night, some of the hooks are good and sharp(my fingers will tell you so) they should suffice for freshwater

My hookups have increased for sure. If gama is sharper that's not even fair.

Gamakatsu EWG's are sticky sharp. Most of the trout we hooked on 'em were hooked outside the mouth...because of that reason.

I re-painted some X-Raps for Inch. Those things have some weird-lookin' trebles on the rear. The center hook is bigger than the other two. They are pretty sharp, too. I think they are VMC. Not as sharp as a Gamakatsu, tho....IMO.

Those hooks on the back of X raps are sure set hooks... Don't think they are VMC but I put the VMC hooks on my spook jrs and your hook ups double with that hook for sure . I made plenty of believers about that hook

Only reason I said "VMC" is because the box says "VMC"....just beneath "Sure Set".

The KVDs from Mustad are fantastic hooks. We looked at using them in a few different applications and cost was the prohibiting factor.
