got my vote, One question I've heard a couple people say that if this passes there will be no need for a conceal carry permit in louisiana, I don't see where it says that, I see where they will never make concealed carry illegal, but will there still be a need to get a permit?

LP,

You are correct -- removing the state's constitutional authority to ban concealed carry will protect the right to carry for law-abiding Louisianans.

It will not, despite anti-gun critics, allow violent criminals to carry. The legislature will still have broad authority to combat crime and illegitimate activities. However, the new protections will require the legislature and courts to acknowledge and protect the rights of the law-abiding.

With respect to the carry system, you will still need a permit -- if the amendment passes, nothing will immediately happen. This is no different than any other state or federal constitutional provision -- as far as process.

In the near term or in the future, it is possible that an individual challenges provisions within the current statute as unconstitutional. It is likely that any broad, ambiguous, or subjective provisions would be struck down as unconstitutional. At the very least, it is appropriate to assume that, in the future, it will be easier for -- LAW-ABIDING-- Louisianans to acquire a permit and exercise your rights.

I voted earlier this week for it. I did think that it was odd the DA in Orleans Parish has publicly opposed the amendment. I assume he just wants criminals to be armed.
