Friday morning we kicked off the Houma Oilmans Tourney with a bang! We enjoyed running in slick calm seas which is rare for this event. Every year its usually 3-5 ft seas and we find ourselves fishing for reds deep in the marsh. Not this year and the guys whacked the trout! After the tune-up the previous day the customers were pumped up for the tournament. We had the 6 boats again for Seacor Marine, 3 boats for Weatherford,2 boats for Seatrax,2 boats for Sparrow, 2 boats for Eastern and 1 boat for E&E Machine. Some of the boats fished for reds but the majority went offshore looking to bust up the trout. The boats were spread out from Whiskey Pass westward to the SS28 block. The boats fishing from SS26 eastward did much better than those at 28. There was no current moving at 28 and the fishing was slow on that end. Live shrimp and minnows did well for the boats that had them and plastic worked well for the rest of the guys.
Big thanks to Capts George Landry,Ruse Smith,Ryan Tolbert,John Falterman,John Haller,Jonathan Allen,Vernon Garriga, Joseph Lamy,Ronnie Daniels,Rodney Bourque,Ricky Brondum,Travis Lovell,Brady Giroir, and Josh & Gerald Ellender for their hard work and taking care of the customers. The average of all the boats were about 54 trout per boat with 868 fish caught on Friday alone. Everyone had a good time doing the DU! Good luck fishing.
