I never had any worries about carrying them with one in the pipe. If you have a gun for SD it better be ready to go to work when you grab it. Most accidental discharges happen when holstering and unholstering a carry weapon. Finger off the trigger and paying attention will fix that. I carry a cocked and locked 1911 or a XD 45. Both are in full ready condition. Having a gun for home defense that has an empty chamber is bad news. In your home you have every advantage. You know where all light switches and door knobs are. You also know which way every door swings. Racking the slide to chamber a round at 2am is not good. Now your home intruder knows what room you're in and that you have a gun. Be silent and keep your home field advantage.
