I have hunted Kellers Bay a little ways up the coast a few times and we killed: Redheads, Pintails, Buffleheads, Teal, and Widgeon.
I loved hunting that open water it was a really good time. Expect for almost sinking the boat on the rid back to launch after front blew thru. |

When we hunted there the 1st time in 2001 we were throwing decoys out next to the airboat in about 8" of water and the ducks were trying to work. Most people hunted off the bank but we wanted to be in the middle of the action.
The following year we brought field chairs and set up a little farther out in the bay, a little deeper around 16" and we smoked em. We threw out about 60 decoys and we set up 60 yards from the edge the decoys. No brush no blind just stay still and as low as possible. We did take longer shots than usual, I ended up shooting 3 1/2" #1s, divers are dumb but hard to kill. Hard sandy bottom, and tidal be careful. |
