This may be a dumb question...but is a tunnel necessary running in these conditions? |

What conditions?

![]() Similar to the video...slim-to-none water. Running a mud flat like that. I have run my boat across a flat like that, but I would never dream of stopping in the middle of it. Don't plan on mud riding in my boat, but it is nice to know you can in case of tide changes or an emergency. |

If you set up a merc 25hp (2 stroke) on a long tunnel they will go through a mud flat with ease. I hate to say it but the merc out performs the yamie 25 2 stroke hands down on the same hull. We have both in GC and when the water gets real low I only take out the merc.

How much better will a flat do than a semi-v? Or does it really make a difference?
|

![]()
I'm no expert, but a semi- v will sit lower in the water/mud along its center line causing more resistance with foot of motor sitting even lower. A flat with a proper tunnel will force a cleaner water stream for the water intake and help aid a thinner mud flow for the prop to grab.
