Forecast rainfall amounts are expected to be 3-6 inches over the watershed area.. that wouldn't have been too bad but the river was already fresh to begin with. It's probably going to worsen as the extra high tide recedes and pulls more fresh water into the bay, and it depends on how long it takes for all the rain water to get back in the bay and then moderate. On a lighter note, winds Sat are expected to be light..
If you go out this weekend be on the look out for floating debris in the lake and ICW. |

Don't know about big lake. But vermillion bay will be on fiya! Always is, after a tropical storm. All that salt water and bait gets pushed in and the trout will follow.

![]() You won't see a post. I no longer have a boat. But that's what I've experienced in the past. I don't mean the day after. I'm talking a week or two after the water cleans up if the weather permits. Everytime I've fished after a storm there was tons of bait in the bay. And caught good on the trout. |

Went to Calcasieu Point to clean fish this am and water was really high and u could see almost a foot down. Be close on seeing trolling motor in water. I don't think we got that much rain up north to hurt things too bad. Just my opinion but here at old town bay we got 1.70 inches of rain so far. Water up here is high due to south winds. I'm thinking this Saturday may be better than next Saturday. Salinity should be better thru out the estuary for a few days at least. Weather man said we have some north winds coming early next week. That could help flush wat fresh water we did get out. Idk. Depends a lot on how much more rain we do get but to me seems like high tides should make up for fresh water. I was hoping for sunday but looks like Saturday will be the day. Been along time since I fished right after a storm like this but ill be out there trying.

If you go out this weekend be on the look out for floating debris in the lake and ICW.[/QUOTE Huge boards were about to come off dock on west side of Calcasieu Point! I knocked on the door at the little trailer house to get the guy to help me pull em up on dock but his sister said he wasn't there. So I tried to pull them up by myself but needed one more man. They put a call in to police jury to come fix in am but I'm worried they already came off. Hopefully these boards washed up onto higher part of dock. West wind was hammering that dock with high water up over lower boards. I didn't want them to get out in channel and a boat hit them. Hoping that they went out today. |

Now to answer my own question after the fact. I went Saturday and Sunday. Sunday was the better day for me. I think it will be back to normal in the next few days. I did have to turn quickly to miss two different logs floating in the water. No telling how many I almost hit that I couldn't see in the chocolate milk water areas. The lake is FULL of shrimp. I didn't make it into west cove so I can't say much for that area.
