Well it looks like coachlaw covered what I would recommend. My first handgun was a .40 cal. and I would buy the same if I had to do it again. You can get a Tarus 24/7 .40 cal. for around $350.00 at Academy which is a well rounded gun. I think when you get that little .22 in your hand you will want something bigger even more. I know you want to only spend a couple hundred but think about it hard cause if you serious about getting a hand gun you will end up getting a bigger one in the long run.
