Most calls will gettem in close enough to shoot. Like Ray said, real ducks sound like ****zel. Some mallard hens are raspy, some squeek, some sound like they have a bad cold and congested. high pitch /low pitch. Big thing is Practice,
Practice, Practice. Every year a few weeks before season, I break out the calls and practice one my way to and from work. Thats about 45 min each way. When you call and the birds turn and are heading your way DON'T CALL! once past the deks and flying away to start the circle a couple of quacks but not together maybe five sec apart will usually seal the deal on the river if they are looking to stop. Sometimes you have to take em on a fly by. Not sure on a marsh, haven't been on a marsh hunt since I was about 20. That was 30 years ago........ just my 2 cents. Hope it helps.
