Maybe 8 years ago. This is our 7th season and we only have two members. There are a couple of leases around the other curve south of the church. We are north. They are big leases with numerous members. Tough hunting in our area. Confident that we have the wildest deer in North America.

I have been debating also on planting later this year. I have just looked at the 7 day forcast and lots of H2O is in the future for this weekend. Mine is all disked up and ready. Just dont want them to burn up with no water and all this heat.
I am trying this blend that LSU puts out. Its called buck busters. 30% wheat, 30% rye, 30% oats. Has winter peas and several clovers in it. 50# plants a acre. I'm in a club north of Longville. Anybody else hunts this area? |

Sorry late reply the deer in my avaitar green scored 125 but officially havent got him real scored until he comes bck from taxidermy. Hunted that deer for 3 years have pics from when he was a 5 point. I am interested in this LSU blend. I still will plant my birdseed plots on field edges for bow season but lack of rain killin me. I have plenty oaks I can hunt so thats always a good place. I hate puttin too much rye cause it has little benefit for deer .

Rain forcast is 40 to 60% for Fri. - Sun. for south Louisiana.

Just know that if plentiful food is available, they wont utilize a food plot to its maximum

Leave the corn and food plots to the 'waiters'. Drought years produce many acorns, be mobile. If you HAVE to do something, fertilize your vines: honeysuckle, dewberry, blackberry, rattan, grapevines. If you absolutely HAVE to get on a tractor and do something, mow out thru the woods, it will set back the woody growth and allow new growth deer really like.
Whoever said Jackson Parish was DRY ain't lyin |

Well looks like no one is planting this weekend with close to 10 inches of rain coming

Going to try it tomorrow afternoon or Sunday morning. We don't need much....just bust the soil open and plant. With this rain it will grow.

That is a good price for that area. The bad part is the drought this year. It will affect the herd for the next two years min. Cant go wrong for a meat hunt place.
