Looking good...
I'm sure there are more "correct" ways but i normally sand the aluminum with 400 grit on a d.a. sander then wipe it down with lacquer thinner then use the mercury primer in the spray can and whatever paint. (in the spray can) Like I said i'm sure there are far more correct ways but its quick, easy, and it works. Its kept the paint on the gearcase at 120mph+ as good or better than the time consuming more correct methods I've used in the past. |

Here's a suggestion for that gas tank that I did with mine. I built a 3/8 inch plywood box just large enough to fit over my 12 gallon gas tank. It has a removable tray on top with 2 inch sides that doubles as another place to hold tackle boxes, lures, etc. I used aluminum angle iron to keep it in place so the tank doesn't move around. Great way to recoup some of the space lost from the tank.
