I use 12 lb. Trilene with a short 20 lb. leader and a swivel.
I tried Suffix cause I thought it looked cool, but I broke off at least once a trip.
I remove a few yards before each trip, but never change out unless the reel gets
around 3/4 full.

I grew up using Stren.....it was the only good mono made back in the early 60's. I used Stren up until I started fishing saltwater a lot about 12 years ago. Started having problems.....line breaking, I think was the problem.

I use Big Game line now and usually fish 4 to 7 trips before changing the line.

Default Trilene

Use Big Game 10 or 15 mono.

Reading through this thread brought some questions to mind

1. Saw some people did not use braided except on a spinning reel. What is the reasoning
2. I tried the leaders and barrell swivels before and had an issue when trying to slow walk a top water with the swivel sinking and messing up the rhythm. Anyone else have this problem.
3. Lastly, where did you find the speed clips with the swivel on them?

Not trying to hijack the thread, just curious.

thanks,

thanks,
The main reason I use braid on a spinning reel is because you don't get line twist like you do with mono. Now when it comes to a baitcaster I much rather mono,i've tryed using it but always go back to mono.

A lot of folks have problems running braid in the baitcasters because of the nasty backlashes that can occur. As I stated earlier, this happened to me a few times, but has not been an issue in a while. Braided line does not twist as much as mono or flouro so it is perfect for spinning gear. I have some braid on a spinning rod that is over a year and a half old and is still great.

Cool Speed Clips

I use the speed clip that Paul Brown sells. He calls it the Tony Clip. I think it is similar to the Norton clip but a lot stronger. I have heard about to many problems with the Norton clips. The only other speed clip I would use is the quick swirl like bay_slayer has posted. I have heard good things about it also. Bellow is a pic of the Tony Clip that I use.

Bait Casting---30# power pro
Spinning--20# power pro

I do not use a swivel. Tie leader 30# flurocarbon to braid using a uni to uni
Tie direct to plastic on jighead, use 36" leader with topwater
Tie direct to Nemier Red Ripper Gold spoon, it does not twist.

Cause that stuff gets horrible memory. Most folks don't like line memory.
