You have WAY too much pitch. Yamaha 250 four stroke needs 6,000 rpm's at WOT. My suggestion would be a 19 pitch yamaha saltwater series 2 or a mercury mirage plus. Under most situations for every pitch you go up/down you will gain/loose 200 rpm's.

I used to see that all the time when I worked at the prop shop. Some dealers just slap whatever they got laying around on just to make the sale.

Just curious what kind of numbers as far as speed and rpm should I expect? I am not concerned with hole shot im wanting more mid range performance best fuel effeciency. At wot I was turning about 5800 rpm and going 51 into a strong headwind.

I mis-read your first post....I thought you were getting 4,600 rpm's wide open. I am shocked you can turn a 24 pitch 5,800. What brand and model prop are you running now? The diameter has alot to do with the overall performance and efficiency. On a bay boat you want a large diameter prop to carry the weight of that style hull. Props can be a you know what to get it like you want. Very seldom will you take a prop out the box and run perfect without having to do some adjustments to complement your boat and load.

2200 with a 225 tops at 54 mph on yamaha perf bulletin... So u should b 58-60 mph with a 250

The performance bulletins can be way off bro. The load they have during the test will not be the same as his setup. You have to treat every boat as a one off scenario.

My buddy has the 2200 tourney with a 225 yamaha ..... With 3 people & Equiptment he can run 52 mph.
Cruise at 35 mph around 3800-4000 rpm. So the larger engine may give a Lil bit more mph. But those older 225-250 Yammy have a weight diff. Correct....... |

Everyone gets stuck on the mph....the key to having a boat that performs best is having a prop that allows the motor to turn the max rpm with your givin load. The 200-250 four strokes all weigh the same,same block,different electronics and porting.

For what its worth I have the 2110 nautic star w/ 150 Opti . At 3800-4000 rpm im running 35 mph with full tank fuel and three guys .

I personally think a 21" prop will be your best bet. You might could stretch it to a 23 depending on prop type or work a 21/23 to a 22. Prop type will play a big factor. For reference, I have been playing with my set up on and off for the last 2 months. I have a 23.5' Fishmaster about the same weight as your 2200 Nautic Star (2100- dry). I have a 250 EFI Merc. I tried a 23 and it ran great, but couldn't get close to max RPM's. I tried a 19" 4 blade, but wasn't happy. I am now using a 21" Merc prop that is known for good bow lift. Right out of the box, I got 41 @ 4000 and 57 @ WOT/5800rpm's. I sent it off to a prop guy that I've used before. I gave him my numbers and my performance desires. Everybody is different with preferences of hole shot vs mid range vs top end vs bow lift vs stearn lift, etc. He did what they call bue printed the prop. He adjusted it for my desires and balanced it. The same 2 props out of the box can act very differently. I haven't run it yet, but I fully expect to gain 2-4 mph out of mid-range and top the 60 mark at wot. I would think you should expect about the same - 40-44mph at 4000 rpm's and 56-60 at wot without any loss to hole shot.
