Happy to help out with taking the wounded warriors out fishing Saturday morning. Last year Tony Fontenot asked our team of captains to participate but we were already booked up solid with our customers. We promised him that we would be available this year and what a fun time we had doing what we do best on the DU!. We brought the vets over to Dularge to spend the night so they would be able to get an early start to their adventure. Big thanks to Capts Ricky Brondum,Brady Giroir,Rodney Bourque and Alden Bonvallain for taking time off and passing up paying trips on a busy Saturday for this exciting adventure for these guys and gals. Everyone headed out to different areas as some people wanted to catch trout while the others wanted reds. I fished with Jason Austin and his wife Christy from Covington.La. What a great couple to spend a beautiful Saturday morning with in the gulf of mexico. The couple wasted no time as at our first stop we found hundreds of hungry bull redfish slamming mullets and pogies on the surface of a slick calm gulf! It was fast & furious as they caught bulls every cast until they were wore out! It was a sight to see the bulls tearing up everything in their path! We kept a few fish for the weigh-in and left the reds swarming all around the big Pathfinder! Our next stop was what we were looking for in regards to some hot speckled trout action. We pulled up and immediately started slinging in big yellowmouths at a nearby oilfield facility. We had them going eating up bunker swim baits and I switched Austin & Christy over to the Wedgetail Mullets on a double rig and the fun started! Two at a time and you know it didnt take long to fill up the big Kysek cooler with 75 fat trout......and all by 9:30. The trout were eating up the lures with chicken on a chain and LSU leading the way. The creole magic also produced a bunch of fish too. Capt Ricky came over after slamming the bulls and slammed the trout too! Within 3 hours these guys and gals personally witnessed the best of both worlds and had never seen such quick action in their lives. We left the trout biting as both crews were in awe after such a great morning. Good luck fishing and looking forward to next years event!
