I have noticed that the rod locker lids do open into the boat, we all know Bill Kenner is the Grandpa of bay boats but I must say that is simply a bad design. With that being said no boat is design perfect.

If this was the intended purpose then wouldnt all of the side lids open toward the inside of the boat? Because if i recall right the rear hatches open toward the outside?

If mine opened to the inside, I would be able to reach well enough to take advantage of it from outside the boat anyway - the bow is high when trailered. I'm in and out the boat anyway when I'm getting ready to go because I don't leave anything in it that I'm not willing to give away! Could it be they were able to make the lids and openings a little larger by mounting the hinges in that position? |

I'm a boat engineer and it all comes down to aerodynamics. When you spin your boat 180 doing a left turn too fast, these hatches should open to slow you down!
Don't you guys watch NASCAR?? Jeez! |

My pathfinders front rod locker hatches open the same way. Their newer modeled boats open from back to front like the hood of a car with the lil gas pistons. I never gave it much thought, but I would think if you were digging in your hatch from inside the boat, your arms would be over the hatch while "digging" preventing the lid to fall down. If were the other way, then a good wave or wind could blow the lid down on your fingers or on a rod while taking it out. Just a thought.
