Mike compare hunting......No Texans come to LA to hunt but all come to fish...........No LA guys go to Texas to fish but all to hunt...[/QUOTI

I fish Rayburn often...i think it's more of a bass'n thing for cross'n the border than salt. And on the comment about Galveston Bay...I've had plenty of good trips out of there! I recall heading to school some mornings and seeing trout riding the crest of the calm breaks in the 2nd pit off the shore and skip class for a quick limit of trout ...

I don't think it is a Texas/Louisiana conservation issue. It is a personal issue. It all depends on how the fisherman thinks, or was brought up, or was taught how to fish.
Some fish to eat, some fish for trophies(some keep, some release), some fish for fun/sport, some fish for all the above.
I think there are as many keepers in Texas as there is in La. We just don't read about them in the magazines we get.
It's all about opinion and responsibility. If I can fish every day, I will release more fish. If I only get to fish a couple times a month, then I will keep my fish to eat. I love eating and one of my favorite things to eat is fish.

I lived in Louisiana for over 30 years and fished and hunted there when I was there. I now live in Texas for the past 8 years and I still come to Louisiana to fish, but I'm lucky that I have lived in 2 states that have many oppurtunities to enjoy the outdoors and I can pass it on to my children. I am willing to pay the $90 out-of-state license fee (even though it's HIGH) because i know that I'll have a great time and probably will catch some fish while there. I also know more productive spots where I fish in Louisiana (mainly Lafourche, Fourchon, G.I. Areas) than I do in Texas. I have some spots I fish in Texas, but sometimes they aren't as productive and I have to scout others and I continually do it because I'm a sportsman and like the challenge. I only can fish once a month or less on avg. now that I have a young family to take care of and I can tell you that when I go, I'm going to keep my "legal" limit if I want because I would like to eat the fish that I catch. I do practice catch and release at times, but if I go I'm usually going for the fun and for food. I cherish every minute I fish in Louisiana because i know it doesn't get much better anywhere else and I miss the hell outta being able to load up and make a quick trip to "the island" whenever i felt the urge to do so.

A lot of this license stuff started on the other border between La. and Miss. if I recall and that's when the out-of-state licenses went up for hunting and fishing.

The issue is people from Louisiana cry when they can not catch fish and the people from Texas can. The only thing that may hurt the fish is all the guide boats killing 60 trout a day per boat.

I have no issues with anyone catching fish. If I can't catch fish, it's my fault.

agree with this on both counts, but would also like to add that people just like to whine about the crowds. Too much pressure is never a good thing. Big Lake has a reputation across the nation that will continue to draw big crowds on its name alone.

I have paid the exorbitant $90 fee for a fishing license in La. since I moved to Texas in 2000. If only I had the cash for a lifetime license when I was a resident there. I just didn't have $500 at the time. $90 is ridiculous, but I have no choice. The fishing is better in La. and when I'm home that's what I do with my dad.

I got the La. lifetime hunting and fishing license the year after they came out.
I read that the LDWF is going to start raising hunting and fishing licenses to match cost of living increases cause they are losing money.
So prepare for a 4 or 5 % increase each year.

“Texans” certainly continue to get a bad rap by some posters on this site. I was born in Baton Rouge, lived in Baton Rouge until Katrina and now live in Houston. I have a camp in Hackberry, 50 acres of land in Baton Rouge and additional acreage outside of Baton Rouge. I bleed purple and gold and am a LSU season ticket holder. I venture to guess that I have spent more money in LA over the past two years than most people on this site. However when I am in my boat around the lake I get the cold shoulder from several folks because I have Texas tags on by boat.
I have an appreciation for the state that a lot of people do not have as I have lived in other places and have come to truly appreciate how great the people of the great state of Louisiana are and how “our” saltwater fishing is second to no one.
Most of the people that I know in Houston have a great respect for our fishery throughout the state of Louisiana.
There are several guides in Hackberry that would be out of a job if it weren’t for the state of Texas and let us not discuss what the economy in Lake Charles would look like without Texas dollars pouring into the casinos. My point is not all “Texans” are bad for the lake or the area.
I am very lucky that Texans do not make rules such as those recommended on this site that would be a barrier to entry for me or I would not have been able to start my own business in Houston as an outsider from Louisiana.
As always, I respect your opinions and believe this to be the best site on the web for good conversation and big lake information. That being said, I would gladly pay any amount of money I had to pay for an out of state license, the opportunity to fish in Louisiana means that much to me.

X3 cKinchen. I know your pain! From B.R. myself.
I gladly go back to fish back in La. any time I can. I brag all the time about how good the fishin' is in La. to some of my buddies here in Tx. and they have gone there to experience it themselves.
More tourist money$ for La. - IMO.
