Default Windy, Cold, Crappy day at the Point today!

The supposed mild, southerly winds were straight out of the north this morning at 15+ mph! Water was at 48-49 degrees which is a bit cold for much trout catching. Fished around the Cove and Point area with not a bite to show for it. Didn't see ANYONE catching any fish today. Closest we came was my 8-year-old foul-hooking a two-inch pogie! We grew tired of the wind and nothing biting and left around 2:00 or so. Also as a heads up....prepare to get an anal pucker when crossing the Bayou Stumpe Bridge out of Lydia. They've got it closed down to one lane with cement barricades with not much more than 8' of clearance! When I passed over the actual bridge I MAY have had 3" on each side of my fenders. Don't know why they had to go to that extreme, I didn't see any road work. They are rerouting the road and replacing a bridge further down at the Bayou Patout Bridge, but it's not nearly as bad as the other one. Oh well...on the bright side no fish or boat cleaning!

hey man we were out there today too. I saw your boat out there. We fished HARD and had 6 reds, 2 bass, one nice blue cat. Not ONE spec. Talked to a guy at the launch who was fishing the cove and they said they had 19. Didn't ask what they were using. We fished cove, sharks bayou, trash pile, little reef between mud point and blue point (don't know if it has a name). And we caught all the fish in the little cuts in weeks bay.

thanks for the reports, gotta report the good and the bad. I was scrambling all morning trying to get finished with work to go this afternoon, and could not for the love of me get done. Still would have been better out there than here.

Default Glad you got some other fish at least...

I wouldn't say we fished that hard....hardest part when you've got young kids with you is keeping 'em out of trouble! My five-year-old dropped his rod and reel overboard. Wasn't too big of a deal other than that's his second time this year doing it! First time was last summer and we were anchored. I was extremely lucky and happened to snag it with my fish hook. This time we were trolling and I didn't feel like making a major effort for it. It was one of my old rods that was retipped and the reel was a Zebco Rhino which is about $30. If someone caught that many trout in the Cove it must have been first thing this morning. I trolled around there for maybe 30 minutes just before heading in and didn't see a one fish of any kind being hauled in. We didn't leave the dock until probably 9:15 or so. Stopped by the Bayview to use the restroom and got the kids a corn dog which was pretty good. Water didn't look very good to me today at least where we were at....maybe 6" of visibility. Guess it's all that dang wind.

2 Bass in V-Bay?
I have never caught a bass in the V-Bay area before, but always wanted to try some of the bayous heading out away from the bay like bayou Patout. It looks like those areas would stay fresh and hold some bass.

If it was around 2:00 or so that was us....wouldn't think their was too many kids out today. I'm not too good at taking note of other boats around me.

Good report. I like it when people post actual reports, the good, bad and ugly. I do the same. Sounds like you still had a good time.
