We've had 5 cars in our ditch since we built this house. All have been single car/truck accidents. But in their defense, there is only a 4" shoulder then down 4 feet. If you get off at all, you're in trouble.

Sounds like my road....speed limit is 35 with no stop signs for almost a mile. Some people easily hit 70 mph....idiots. Had two morons that work for a car lot right up the road decide they would do a lil race in customers cars. One ended up going in the ditch and coming up the other side getting enough air to hit the power pole 10 foot up the pole and land on the roof! It is pretty safe to say he got fired....

I've got the Navionics chip in my Humminbird 786ci. I love it. I don't think it is completely necessary for Big Lake, but it sure makes my GPS display purdy. I have benefitted from it though and I recommend it to anyone who is willing to pay the price tag for it. It is very accurate and helps with navigation moreso than fishing, but I was surprised to find a couple new fishing holes with it. Pretty cool little chip. Has great detail for the inland bays and waterways along the gulf coast.

My lowrance in the Triton doesnt have as much detail as my garmin did. Will this chip give me better detail of the marsh? If not do the new HDS units have better detail of the marsh? I thought about just installing the garmin in the new boat but that is alot of trouble... Somebody

I had the Nav P+ chip in my HDS 10 - fantastic combo!
Extremely clear 'google earth' marsh detail was what did it for me v other brands.
I have the same chip in a Raymarine C90W (was on the boat when I got it) and it is not as clearly detailed on the google earth images as the HDS 10.

The Navionics chip is going to give you more detail than most, if not all of the base maps of any brand GPS unit you buy (I can't speak for the HDS series though bc I haven't gotten to play around with one too much yet). Some units are more capable than others and provide more detail when used in conjunction with the chip. I haven't been on the water with any Google Earth maps, but that sounds pretty cool. I have been very pleased with the accuracy of the Navionics chip in my 786ci though.
