You gunna be fishing on the bank or boat? I went there one time and we fished some islands called ship shore or something like that. Pretty good fishing out there....Im sure there is some areas were you can fish the surf for trout and other species.

I used to fish this area alot when I lived over there. Cat Island and Ship Island are jolding trout rigght know. Heron bay along the south shoreline heading back to the mouth of the pearl river is good for trout. Pass Mariana Light just west of Cat Island is a nice shallow structure with a shell bottom good for trout. Check any structures on your way out to ship island or out to Chandeleur Islands for Ling and trout. Biloxi marsh is full also. Bring a GPS and track your way out if you go in there. THere are some close in reefs from Bay St. louise that you can see from the Washington Street Boat Launch that they are catching trout on, also look for birds in the Bay in the afternoon.

if the weather is nice, make the run across the sound(roughly 7-10 miles depending where you launch) to the marsh......racoon island, brush island, freemason, bobs lakes....anywhere around the 9 mile or 3 miles pass into the marsh would be a good place to start depending on winds etc.....All the areas i mentioned are labeled on the gps and BEWARE!! Lots and lots of shallow water everywhere out there outside of marked channels.
If you run east, you have half moon, isle la pitre, cat, and ship islands to fish....get there early and throw topwater where ever you go. If you have to stay in close depending on where you launch, the rocks around silver slipper or any of the shoreline in between there and the pearl river have been holding fish recently. Plenty of 3tail around, but they are getting hard to catch!! Goodluck guys! |

I grew up fishing the beach and bay in Biloxi, and if you want to stay close in, Deer Island right off the coast of Biloxi is good for trout and flounder. Fish the cuts in the rock jetties. If you don't mind making a run, I would suggest Cat Island. My father has been limiting out almost every time recently, fishing smuggler's cove and wade fishing about 50 yards from the beach and throwing toward the stumps. Isle a Pitre is also a great spot if you want to run a little further past Cat. Good wade fishing for trout and the occasional red. I can't wait to make a trip over there this fall. It's been far too long.

Wow, thanks for the replies fellas! We're staying at a lake house in Bay St. Louis so we'll be leaving from there since the boat will be in the water all weekend. About how long of a run time-wise is it to Cat Island?

It's only about 8 or 9 miles from the Long Beach harbor, but from Bay St. Louis it's probably about 15 miles.
