Can I make this hoop net bait ?? How ?? What ingredients do I start with and what are the directions ? I have (3) small nets and (2) large ones. Only going to throw them into a creek behind my house. |

You can buy a box of pogey for around $19. The boxes normally have around 80-90 pogies which is the equivalent of about 40#.
Put about 10 pogies in a knee high stocking per net. Another thing we used to do was sour some corn in a drum and put them in a stocking in the net. Warren |

I have made my own chum block for years now. You will either sacrifice your wife's blender or go get a cheap one. I just go out and cast net for bait or save my bait I used during a fishing trip. Also save the water you had it in (salt or fresh). Get a blender and blend it all up. Mix equal parts water and bait. Pour the mix into a piece of tupperware of any size you wish your block to be. Freeze this mix. I have a foodsaver so when it freezes I remove the mix and place the frozen block in foodsaver bag and vacum pack it. You can write on the bags and label the mix contents. These will keep for years and you will always have one ready. Works with anything you want to use as bait. I use a mesh laundry bag as a chum bag. They are cheap and allows just the right amount of bait to release. Good luck!

I remember my dad and uncle using cheese for bait. I never thought it stunk, but I was around it every day. Warren |

I was always playing in it, but that was 30 years ago. So I may have smelled and just don't remember.

I get the cheese. I think they still carry the trimmings. Its just the edges and ends from the cut blocks. it's a little cheaper and just as good. Adam is right about putting it in stockings, but tie it in the net where you untie the net to get the fish out. They do have some bait bags you can get. they are about a buck each, you 2 for each net. That way you can set your net and when you rebait, you can have your fresh bait ready when you check your nets.
