Fuel/Water Separator

I need to install a filter on a 2 stroke EFI 150 Suzuki and would like one with the clear bowl on the bottom so I can see if there is water in the gas. I am installing new 3/8" fuel line from tank to motor. I see that some of the filters have 1/4" NPT fittings and was wondering if that would restrict the flow of fuel? Any suggestions about which brand I should purchase? I looked at the racor on the West Marine website. Or should I just go with a basic 10 micron filter without the see-thru bowl?

You get what you pay for. Go to any boat dealership or academy and don't skid by with any cheap one. It's easier to pay $50-$100 than it is $2000+ for a new motor

I rather the plain oil filter type filter with no clear bowl. The bowl is just another area for a leak to start. Make sure you buy a filter kit with a stainless steel base so it will last in sw. Marpaq sells one for 40-50 bucks that comes with 2 10 micron filters,the SS base,and fittings. You can pick em up at the prop shop or redmonds marine in lafayette.

Remember the bulb goes between motor and separator.

I dont know if it really matters . I always put the bulb between the tank and filter. I have seen it both ways .

Same here. I have always found it easier to get the filter full like this than the bulb down stream of it.

the 1/4 npt is the size of the pipe threads on the fitting. you will need 3/8 nipple with 1/4 npt as most filter heads are 1/4 npt for outboards. imo racor is the way to go. they are high but last forever. i like the clear bowl lets me see whats in the filter.

Also, the clear has a drain on it so you can let the water out and you don't have to prime the filter unless you change it........spend the extra money, you'll be happier in the long run.......

I was told by a boat dealer that if you install a Racor filter with the clear bowl that it cannot be installed in an enclosed compartment per Coast Guard regulations.
