Bog Hog is trash. Find a set of plans on eBay if you are going to fabricate your own.

What makes the big hog "trash"? I saw the plans available on eBay. About how much in material will it take and what kind of skill level to build one off of the eBay plans?

be alot easier to make a long tail than a surface drive.

Cheap material.
You will probably come out cheaper building it yourself. Depending if you buy the kit from Bog Hog or the frame. If you or someone you know can weld you should have no problem. You can build something on your own with beefier material. Get on MMT, become a member, and do a search for homemade longtail. You will get more than enough info. Good luck. |

alrighty, we can weld and get ahold of materials I just would rather follow someone's proven plans than hope for the best and get someone hurt or stranded because we didn't know what we were doing. I'll have to hop on there tomorrow and see what I can find. Right now my outboard is working for what were doing. I just don't want to get adventurous one day and wish we had been better equipped.

Would there be any harm in putting a mud motor on a boat with a semi-v hull. My only concern was when making turns with possibly tilting one way or the other too far and not being on a level bottomed surface. I've had two people tell me it should be okay as long as I'm not crazy with it. I'm usually pretty anal about safety I just would rather know going into that it's going to be safe rather than wishing it was after the fact. The motor I was talking about above is for a friend's flat but for next season I would like to get one made for my semi-v if its going to be safe.

An LT can be out on a semi-v but it won't work to its full potential. Mud motors like longer, narrow boats, also. LTs are designed to work on a 16" transom. GD makes one with a longer shaft and different cavitation plate angle for use on tall transoms.
