At the speed I run my boat, it is about the same time to run from Calcasieu Point to the jettys as it is to drive from Calcasieu Point to the Jettys.

We've done it both ways and also calculated the gas. On a beautiful day with great conditions, I prefer the boat ride. Too much chop, too hot, or risk of t-storms, I prefer the ride in the SUV the the shorter boat run back to the ramp if t-storms appear in the distance. My kids prefer the car ride most days. The car ride beats the boat ride regarding gas with most boat and towing vehicle combinations. Also, I've never seen a line at the Cameron boat ramp.

Finally, I like fishing the jetties from mid afternoon until the sunset. The ride back to the ramp at dusk is much better than the ride back to Calc Point in the dark.

Boat gets about 4 to 5 mpg. Truck gets 15 to 20 mpg.
1 hour either way you run. If you run boat faster, mpg goes down.
