I already emailed it to my wife.
I think I will help some of my buddies out and ask the priest to incorporate it into the sermon this Sunday

What I have done with mine is tell them every sunday they have x amount waiting for them.(helps to have money in hand when telling them this) Then tell them what I expect done for the week. Like cutting grass if not minus like $10.Clothes brought each morning and night to Laundry room if not minus $1.00 every time I see they haven't. Dishes put in sink after meals again minus $1.00 if I see the dishes not picked up. I have them unload the dishwasher so if it is full and wife tells them they have that evening to do or minus more. Then I throw them a curveball and tell them if they remember to bring the trash to the road the night before it comes I give them extra. So come Sunday the get what is left of the money I promised them. If nothing is left then they are SOL All this hinges on your wife joining in. Which mine was happy to do because she does all house work.

Man this is great stuff! Dink have a talk with your wife, can't have one parent enabling behind the others back. I watched my mom do this with my youngest brother and now he is on drugs and has no work ethic. Good luck bro.

I raise my two boys the same way I was raised which is you don't get paid for doing work around the house the work you or doing now is what keeps you with food, clothes, and when you want to go somewhere you have the money to go to a dance and it is what I give you and not what you want are request. I you want a certain amount then go out and get a job that is what I did when I was 14 years old and have been working ever since. When you get a job you will still have work to do around the house and that don't go away till you move out. Here is some work they were doing today.

I will certainly incorporate some of this into my kids up-bringing. They only 6-7 right now but I need to get them started.

Dink how old is he?? I work for 2 companies doing lawn maintence. I'm busy everyday of the week except wednesday. I enjoy working though. Keeps me busy. Open him up a checking account... One of the best things I did. Everybody likes watching their money accumulate. Sure I've got the 4.0 too, but I like having a good time with buddies, and not having the guilt that my parents pay for my stuff.

I feel you on the step dad thing Dink........and I know from past conversations you have his best interest in mind and love him.

I had to back off.........but, I did not hand him anything. He hated school and barely got out, but he loved to make money (not work mind you, make money).
His mom and dad thought that was just soooooo great, until they realized that money was giving him and independence that is mental maturity could not work through.

so along with getting him working, make him learn to manage that money and not use it to waste on a good time, all the time.

Unfortunately, before they can drive, it's hard for them to get a job. Also before they turn 16.

trying to get mine a cash paying gig a few hours a day cleaning tools or something at a local machanic shop. Dirty ***, nasty, sweaty **** that will teach him the value of a man's labor and respect those that do those jobs.

there is way more than just money to be earned with the right job.
