ImageUploadedByTapatalk1341719726.967268.jpgdon't need 60 ft of water And don't have to go 30 miles I get em all day long at just about every rig east of bouy chain between 15 and 25 key is getting the lil bastards to bite they picky thats why I spear the things just as good as snapper in my opinion

Went out 70 miles Friday and every rig I went to had mangroves, even at 25 miles but had a hard time catching. We couldn't get them to hit anything but some small chunks we were chumming with, but as soon as we put a hook in it we caught everything but mangroves. We went down to a 20# leader small circle hook, like what u catch specks on, and no weight and started catching. Hope this helps next time.

Skeeter,
It's funny that the Mangroves out of Cameron are so hook shy as they don't get near the pressure that other areas get. Thanks for the tip! |

all mangroves are hook shy.... gotta bury that hook in the bait. another good trick is using red circle hooks. gotta use flourocarbon leader too.

I hear ya on the Hook/ leader shy. I fished for them hard to catch the few we did. They inspect everything they eat very well

Live shrimp ... They crush them no hesitation, and way cleaner in your boat than cutting up stinky pogies to chum em up. Toss in a few dead shrimp they will come up then free line a big live shrimp ...

Croakers do work awesome also but they are hard to keep alive if it's rough when running and they get all sloshed around ... They get red bellied n lethargic

Pox,
Which way do you hook your ship when you freeline them? Do you use a red circle hook? |

Pox u ever tried that our of Cameron done it outa Venice no prob outa Cameron tried no success. That's why I use the best bait around when fish don't bite they'll always bite a steal shaft!
